And I mean a lot. Why is organizing so difficult? I look at all the stuff I have and sometimes just want to chuck it. Maybe I have a small hording obsession. Not the crazy "I need to buy and keep everything" kind, just I have somethings that I like but I know I'm not using it. (The raptor scene in Jurassic Park freaked me out when I first saw it in theaters. Sorry, I was watching it.) I just get all these little things that are hard to organize.
Does anyone remember when they were a kid and after awhile you would go to look for something and you could never find it? You might have thought that you lost it, but in reality your mom just cleaned out your room while you were away. I know my mom(of course she didn't admit this until years later) did and sometimes I think that would be nice to do. Give someone a list (unless they know you) of what you like and that person goes in -and gets rid of anything not on that list. They have a yard sell(because, hey, we need to make a some cash for our sacrifice) and split it with them. Oh and then go out and buy more crap. =)
Another problem that arises from getting rid of things you no longer need is how to donate usable items. It seems like the more everyone is asking for stuff, the pickier they get. Where I live the main donation center is the DI, short for Deseret Industries. It is run by the Mormon church. That part I don't care about, but lately they will only accept things that are in near mint conditon. I understand not wanting to take garbage, but people have been turned away with things that have just a scratch on it. I shop second-hand stores for cheap products, I don't expect them to be in perfect condition.
On a side not, the above also reminds me of the recycling problem. Everyone wants you to recycle, but no one wants to previde bins. Or if you are lucky enough to find one (like at a school) it only allows newpapers to be put in. I get more junk mail then I do newspaper. I also don't think it should be mandatory either. I don't believe the government should be allowed to force people to pay for a private service, it's just like insurance. But that is an entirely different rant.
Back to my junk problem. So now I am trying to organize one room in order to move stuff in there so my husband and I can finish off our family room. Whew that's bigger than it reads. I would also like to one day redecorate our guest bedroom. I want it to be in a nautical theme. Wish me luck people.
Cleaning away!!!
